Taunton Christmas Festival 2011

The 6.30am alarm clock on a cold November Sunday was slightly painful, but there was a very good reason for it.. The Taunton Christmas Festival, the biggest free community event in town!

Large areas of the town were pedestrianised, having been granted security clearance with the sound of “Couple of Mugs coming through” being announced over megaphones and radios, we were amazed to see that Taunton town centre had miraculously transformed into a Winter-Wonder-Land.

On arrival at our pitch we were warmly met by the event organisers who were fantastic in catering to our needs and explaining the day’s processions (we think they were buttering us up for a free brew… It worked!)

The Christmas Festival was a full day of entertainment which included a fun fair, live music (including performances by Taunton school), Santa dash fun-run, Santa sleigh rides with a horse drawn sleigh and reindeer petting!

Cedric was admired throughout the day for his quirky character and wide range of heart-warming teas which were much needed on this cold winters day. We introduced our Christmas Special (mince pie and hot drink for £2) which unsurprisingly was the top seller. The spiced winter tea was described as “Christmas in a cup”, we couldn’t agree more!

The festival finished at 6pm with a fantastic firework display and the switching on of the Taunton Town Christmas lights, a brilliant turnout to a very well organised event!

A special thanks to the “non dairy crew” who praised us for having soya milk after “searching for ages” for someone that did, it will be a permanent addition to our stock for future events

Thanks again to Emily and Hannah who helped us serve the masses, we hope Santa acknowledges all of your hard work this year.

One for the Christmas dinner table: What does Father Christmas suffer from if he gets stuck in a chimney?… Santa Claustrophobia!
